Local Number Portability (LNP)
Local Number Portability (LNP) - (i.e. Number Portability (NP), Mobile Number Portability (MNP), and Wireless Number Portability (WLNP)) is the ability of voice services subscribers to retain their existing telephone numbers when changing service providers within the same market place.

To meet subscriber demand, LNP became a regulation that has been imposed on voice service providers by government regulatory bodies in several countries. This regulation triggered service providers to enter in a forceful battle for subscribers. Another upheaval service providers are facing is the costs involved with the regulatory compliance and the costs of transitioning this solution from their Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) network to a Next Generation Network (NGN).

With Veraz, service providers are able to transform the LNP compliance challenge into a strategic opportunity to expand their market share and improve profitability.

Veraz LNP solution offers a set of options that include In-switch, traditional Intelligent Networks (IN) Service Control Point (SCP) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) based SCP. Service providers can utilize an existing or newly deployed ControlSwitch to provide LNP for large national networks.

Service providers that have already deployed an SCP based LNP solutions can use the ControlSwitch to provide the LNP query from the existing SCP(s). Cooperating with third party partners; Veraz can implement solutions that transition LNP from Legacy IN systems to a more flexible SIP based solution. This pure SIP-based NGN solution enables service providers to easily implement LNP as part of a service infrastructure upgrade. Alternatively, operators with a ControlSwitch can implement their national LNP database as one of the modules of the ControlSwitch.

One of the prevailing trends in the industry is to transition legacy IN SCPs to IP-based SCPs. Veraz enables service providers to efficiently transition to a service-rich IMS architecture supporting LNP natively or via third-party IP-based SCPs, thereby benefiting from the inherent advantages of deploying NGNs that have an open, standards-based distributed architecture that can be centrally managed.
